Nelson Newsletter - August 2026

“We preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:23-24

Dear Partners in the Gospel,

Atlanta Church - It’s Not About the Sofa! A few days ago, Danelle and I drove my truck to simply pick up a used sofa, or so we thought. God has been teaching me that it is not about the flat tire, the Amazon return, or the used sofa. It is always about the gospel! While driving over we prayed for other believers as well as for the couple selling the sofa. After meeting the husband and his wife, we continued conversing while loading the sofa. He is originally from India and she is from Afghanistan. Her mother was preparing an Afghan dish. I commented that it smelled really good. After a few minutes, they invited us to say for dinner! We had an amazing time getting to know each other and sharing our faith as we enjoyed the savory meal.

Two days later, Danelle took some zucchini bread and my honey to them. She said they were very happy to see her, and they had a delightful visit. They live five minutes from Grace and Ward, so we hope they can connect since their children are similar in age. Most of all, pray for them to come to know the Lord Jesus!

Danelle Her surgery was postponed until September 10th. Yesterday they bumped it up to September 8th. She hopes to heal quickly so that she can help our daughter, Merry, deliver her baby who is due the middle of the month.

Ukraine Trip September 21-28 Steve was invited to join Timmy Powers and a small team of missionaries to minister to Ukrainian pastors and leaders. The purpose is to give the nationals a time of rest, refreshment, and encouragement. They will be meeting in Western Ukraine, which is far from the front lines and therefore safer.

Prayer & Praise

Carbondale Church David and Stephanie still need a buyer for their house. Pray they would walk in the Spirit to love each other, their children, and others while waiting. Pray for Kerianna and Jeffry as they foster a 16-year-old pregnant girl and 3- and 5-year-old boys.  Jeffry still needs to surrender his life to Christ. Pray for Laura and Brent and their 3 children who have been attending recently. Brent is also not a believer. Pray for Eve and her boyfriend, Gavin, who is not saved yet. Eve just recommitted her life to Christ and is very young in the faith. They are thankful for the number of unsaved people God has brought into their lives!

Virginia Church Pray for Mariella’s rebab to help her shoulder and hip. Pray for Jeff as he is extremely ill. Please pray for his wife and children too. Pray for Brian and Jen’s relationship and her upcoming labor and delivery to go well. Pray for Liz who feels overwhelmed by caring for her family and friends. Ask God to give the church hope, peace, and faith to carry on strong!

Springfield Church My sister, Patty, just got married last week to David Limpus! Please pray for them to grow in their love for Jesus, one another, and the believers in their church.

Atlanta Church Pray for Michelle’s family as her brother, Scott, went to be with the Lord this week. Pray for Danelle’s surgery , September 8th, and the recovery to go well. Ask God to save our new friends who sold us the sofa. Ask God to give us more time to interact with them to help them begin a relationship with Jesus.

Ukraine Mission Trip Pray for our team to be filled with compassion as we go to listen, understand, and encourage these hard-working saints. We have known most of them for decades and have served with them in the gospel. Pray for our health, safety, and most of all, that we would be filled with the Holy Spirit to encourage them during this difficult time. And please continue to ask God to end this war in a favorable way for the oppressed Ukrainian people.

Nelson Family Our daughter, Merry, is due in the middle of September with her fourth child. Please pray for her and her son to be safe and healthy. All looks good so far! Danelle's surgery was moved, again, from September 10th to the 8th. Thank you for praying for this to be successful and for her recovery.

Yours by God’s grace,
Steve and Danelle
