He Pursued Me!

Hi I’m Julia and I’m from Malaysia. From the day I was born, God never stopped pursuing me because He really wanted me to know Him.

As a child, I felt like my parents didn’t pay as much attention to me, compared to my brothers. In a traditional Chinese family the sons were always given the best, and so I thought it was unfair to be born as a girl.  I felt like my life was meaningless, so I started cutting myself to get more attention from my parents. I was constantly angry with my mother over little things, and sometimes even made her cry.

I took piano lessons in elementary school and my teacher was a Christian. She spoke with me about Jesus and encouraged me to go to church. I began to attend church and see God impact my life.  However, my dad was Buddhist, and didn’t like it when I went to church. Gradually, my mother allowed me to go to church, and she even went with me!

Then I went to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where I met Sue Ann. She invited me to go to her church. One day she asked me, “Do you think you will go to heaven or hell when you die?” This triggered my interest and I started to go to her Bible study.

I was amazed that God loved me so much that He gave His one and only Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. If I believed in Him, all my sins would be forgiven. “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith; and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God. Not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

I started to understand that because of my sin - when I was angry, jealous, or disobedient to my parents - I was separated from God and would go to hell. But God loved me so much that He sent Jesus to die in my place so I could have a relationship with Him and go to heaven.

In 2015 I finally made the decision to trust Christ and become a Christian. I now have a new life in Jesus. I want to become more like Him every day.

Julia

Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

A New Ukrainian Believer Have you ever done something for God and wondered why more didn’t happen? You wondered, “Did I pray enough? Did I show them the love of God? Was I filled with the Spirit and faith?” Danelle and I were living in Ukraine, and that’s exactly how we felt after an exhausting week of sowing the gospel in Dimitrov, Ukraine one summer. We knew it was a battle, with no hot water, and cold water for only 2 hours daily, etc. The general apathy and defeated attitude among the residents also zapped our faith. But, as Ecclesiastes 11 tells us above, God is always working, even if we don’t know when! He always does more than we can see or imagine. Here is an example of God doing more than we imagined and in His timing.

Mindy Henson (a missionary friend in Kiev) wrote us recently, “We heard from Igor Tunik, in eastern Ukraine. This is a photo of Vitalik (on right) - he was one of the children at the camp where you all went with David, years ago. He heard your testimonies and the gospel. Tomorrow, he is getting baptized as a new believer! Praise God!”

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without your support and prayers. Thank you teammates!
